A button test is a diagnostic that shows, in real time, whether every button on your controller registers a press correctly. This tool reads your controller directly through the browser and highlights each button the moment you press it.
How do I test if my controller buttons are working
Connect your controller over USB or Bluetooth, press any button so the browser detects it, then press each button one at a time on this page. Every button that registers will highlight on screen and its value will update in the grid above.
Why is my controller button not responding
A button that does not highlight when pressed usually points to debris under the button cap, a worn contact pad, or in rare cases a loose internal connection. Cleaning around the button is worth trying before assuming a hardware fault. See the Fix guide for the full process.
How many buttons does a game controller have
Most modern controllers report between 14 and 17 buttons to the browser, covering face buttons, the D pad, shoulder buttons, triggers, stick clicks, and system buttons such as View, Menu, and Home.
Can I test a PS5 DualSense controller here
Yes. The DualSense is fully supported over both USB and Bluetooth, including the face buttons, D pad, shoulder buttons, triggers, and the touchpad click.
Can I test an Xbox controller here
Yes. Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Xbox Elite controllers are all supported over USB and Bluetooth.
Does this work with Nintendo Switch controllers
Yes. The Switch Pro Controller is recognized as a standard gamepad and every button test on this page works the same way.
Do I need to install anything to test my buttons
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using the Gamepad API. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
Why does a button show as pressed when I am not touching it
This usually points to a stuck button, debris holding a contact closed, or in some cases interference on a wireless connection. Try cleaning around the button and testing again over a wired connection to rule out interference.
What does the button value number mean
Each button reports a value between 0.000 and 1.000. Digital buttons like face buttons typically jump straight from 0 to 1. Analog inputs, such as triggers wired as buttons, can report a smooth range in between.
Can this test detect a stuck button
Yes. If a button reads as pressed while you are not touching it, that is a clear sign of a stuck button or a contact that is not resetting properly.
Can this test detect double inputs or ghosting
Watch the button grid closely while pressing once. If a single press causes the indicator to flicker or register twice, that points to ghosting, which is often a worn contact pad. See Buttons register twice for next steps.
Does this work on mobile phones
Yes, on any mobile browser that supports the Gamepad API and a controller paired over Bluetooth or connected through a USB adapter.
Is my button press data stored anywhere
No. Every reading happens locally in your browser and is not sent to a server unless you choose to export a report yourself.
What should I do if a button fails this test
