Vibration Tester | Test Your Controller Rumble Motors Online
Independently trigger the strong and weak rumble motors in your controller to confirm both are working. Since a browser cannot feel vibration for you, this tool combines live capability detection with your own tactile confirmation. Works with PS5, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and generic USB or Bluetooth controllers.
Strong motor
Low frequency, deep rumble felt across the whole controller
Weak motor
Higher pitched, faster buzz, usually felt closer to one side
Test each motor on its own before testing both together.
Connect
Plug in over USB or pair over Bluetooth, then press any button.
Check detection
Confirm the actuator status above reads as detected before continuing.
Test the strong motor
Press test, feel for a deep low frequency rumble, then confirm.
Test the weak motor
Press test, feel for a faster higher pitched buzz, then confirm.
Read the verdict
The overall verdict combines detection with what you actually felt.
Vibration intensity is not something a browser can read back, so the verdict below combines objective capability detection with your own confirmation for each motor.
| Verdict | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fully functional | Both motors confirmed, the rumble subsystem is healthy and both produce the expected sensation. |
| Partial function | One motor confirmed, one not. Usually points to a single failed motor or a loose solder joint, often a low cost repair. |
| Detected, unconfirmed | The actuator reports support but you did not confirm feeling it. Try a higher intensity or a wired connection before assuming a fault. |
| No rumble | No actuator detected or nothing felt on either motor. Could be a browser limitation, a driver issue, or genuinely failed motors. |
Most controllers include two separate rumble motors rather than one. The strong motor spins a larger, heavier weight relatively slowly, producing the deep, low frequency rumble you feel across the whole controller during a big impact or explosion in a game. The weak motor spins a smaller weight much faster, producing a lighter, higher pitched buzz used for finer texture like gunfire or engine vibration.
Because they are separate components with their own wiring, one can fail while the other keeps working perfectly, which is exactly why this tool tests them independently rather than only offering a single combined test. Newer controllers such as the PS5 DualSense use voice coil actuators instead of simple spinning weights, giving noticeably finer haptic detail, though the browser still drives them through the same standard interface.
This test works with any controller whose vibration actuator is exposed by your browser, including these commonly tested models.
See full specifications for these and more on the Devices page.
Only one side vibrates
One motor confirms fine while the other produces nothing, even at full intensity.
Read the fixController will not turn on
If the controller has no power at all, vibration cannot be tested until charging is resolved.

Run the benchmarkHow does a browser test controller vibration
Browsers expose a vibration actuator on connected controllers through the Gamepad API. Calling the play effect method tells the controller to fire its motors at a requested intensity for a set duration. The browser cannot read vibration back, so this tool combines that output with your own tactile confirmation for each motor.
Why does only one motor vibrate
Each rumble motor is a separate part with its own wiring and weight. Age, drops, or a loose solder joint can disable one without affecting the other. The strong motor tends to fail first since its larger weight puts more stress on the mount. See the Fix guide for next steps.
What is the difference between the strong and weak motors
The strong motor spins a larger weight slowly to produce a deep, low frequency rumble felt across the whole controller. The weak motor spins a smaller weight quickly for a faster, higher pitched buzz. Games layer both together for richer feedback.
Why does my PS5 DualSense vibration feel different from Xbox
The DualSense uses voice coil actuators instead of traditional spinning weight motors, giving it finer grained haptic feedback. Both are exposed through the same standard vibration interface in the browser, but the sensation itself is qualitatively different.
Why does Firefox not support controller vibration
Some browsers have historically limited or omitted the vibration actuator over privacy and fingerprinting concerns. Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium based browsers currently offer the most reliable support. Try Chrome or Edge before assuming a hardware fault.
Does running a vibration test damage the controller
No. Each test fires for a short duration at an intensity you choose, well below what a game routinely demands during normal play. A few seconds of diagnostic testing is harmless.
Why does Bluetooth vibration feel weaker than wired
Bluetooth has more limited bandwidth than a wired connection, and some controllers reduce vibration power wirelessly to save battery. If wired vibration feels normal but wireless feels weak, that is expected behavior, not a fault.
Can this test detect adaptive trigger haptics
Only partially. This tool drives the standard dual motor rumble effect, which every supported controller responds to. Adaptive trigger resistance is a separate motorized system that browsers cannot read or control, covered on the Adaptive Trigger Test page instead.
Can I test a PS5 DualSense controller for vibration here
Yes. The DualSense supports the standard vibration interface over both USB and Bluetooth, though USB tends to give the most consistent results.
Can I test an Xbox controller for vibration here
Yes. Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Xbox Elite controllers all support vibration testing over USB and Bluetooth.
Does this work with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
Yes, when the controller is connected and recognized as a standard gamepad, though vibration support can vary depending on the browser and connection type.
Do I need to install anything to test vibration
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using the Gamepad API. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
Why does the test say no actuator detected
This means the browser did not expose a vibration interface for your controller. Try a Chromium based browser such as Chrome or Edge, connect over USB instead of Bluetooth, and press a button first so the browser fully recognizes the controller.
Does this work on mobile phones
Yes, on mobile browsers that support the Gamepad API vibration interface with a controller paired over Bluetooth or connected through a USB adapter, though support varies more on mobile than on desktop.
What should I do if a motor fails this test
Retest over USB to rule out a wireless power saving limitation, then check the Fix page for vibration troubleshooting. A single failed motor is often a low cost repair rather than a reason to replace the whole controller.
