Follow these four steps to thoroughly test every input on your controller and catch hardware issues before they affect your gameplay.

Connect your controller
Connect your controller using USB or Bluetooth. The browser detects it automatically once you press any button, which is a privacy requirement of the Gamepad API rather than a bug.

Test every button
Press each button one at a time in the Button Test and watch the matching indicator light up. Work through every face button, shoulder button, trigger, and D pad direction methodically.

Check the analog sticks
Move each stick slowly through its full range and watch the live coordinate readout. A healthy stick at rest should read close to zero, any reading without touching it can point to drift.

Verify and diagnose
Finish by checking vibration, reviewing your results, and using the deadzone and polling rate tools if you noticed anything worth a closer look.

Troubleshooting
Need help, common solutions
If your controller is not appearing or inputs are not registering correctly, work through these checks in order.
Refresh the page
A controller connected before the page loaded may not be detected. Reload the page, connect your controller, then press any button.
Check the connection
Make sure your USB cable is firmly seated, or that Bluetooth is properly paired in your system settings. Try a different port or cable.
Use Chrome or Edge
Chrome and Edge have the most complete Gamepad API support. Firefox works for most controllers, though vibration testing may not be available.
Grant browser permissions
Some browsers prompt for gamepad access. If you see a prompt, allow it. If you denied it before, reset the permission in your browser site settings.
Check battery level
A low battery can cause intermittent disconnects and input lag. Charge fully or replace batteries, then reconnect and test again.
Update controller drivers
On Windows, open Device Manager and look for controller entries with a warning icon. Update the driver, or reinstall the manufacturer's software.
